March 4th 2020
International Scrapbooking Industry Day is an annual celebration observed on March 4th.
Memories are the one most loved, cherished and invaluable things that will take anyone to the same exact moment. Scrapbooking is a favourite fun time (should say full time) hobby (life's work) not only for kids but also for the adults. One would have pasted the photos, artwork, envelopes, letters and others items including ticket stubs, pressed flowers, and more. Every other page of the scrapbook will have a different story to be revealed.
History: The International Scrapbooking Industry Day’s exact history and origin are unknown. There isn’t any record found regarding the person and its first observance anywhere.
Scrapbooks have been around for a long time, and ones from centuries gone by can give us a fascinating insight into the lives of our ancestors.
Around the 15th century, Englanders might make what was called ‘commonplace books’ out of their favorite letters, quotations, recipes and the like. A commonplace book was an excellent way of compiling knowledge, and it is not uncommon to find them packed with prayers, proverbs, mathematical formulas, and informational tidbits.
Then, in the 16th century, friendship albums began to appear which frequently contained memorabilia from trips and excursions between friends and family, and usually, illustrations or notes were written by them. Much like yearbooks of modern times, friendship albums would be filled with scribblings from the owner’s acquaintances.
College women around the early 1900s would frequently use scrapbooking as a way to record their lives; as cameras and photography were not readily available at the time, students would keep their playbills or their ticket stubs in a scrapbook as a snapshot.
Because scrapbooking would become something akin to writing a journal, scrapbooks from previous centuries can give us modern folk an excellent insight into what life was like in times gone by.
Today was all about scrapbooking!
Well,
The scrapbook event this weekend!
My plan was to stay home
But I ended up out
On a futile mission.
Home again
I made three piles.
The dining room for door prizes.
The front porch for packed
and counted supplies and stock.
The kitchen for any food stuffs
Needing to be counted.
Once john was gone to work,
My partner made the list while I counted.
Tomorrow I have to tackle wrapping
All those door prizes!
Somewhere in there I also:
Finished the food handling class
Went to the grocery store(s)
Went to the bank
Met a dishonest insurance agent
Picked up mom and drove her
To her cross stitch night
Organized John's meds
Came home and made dinner
Cleaned the kitchen
Did some laundry
Cubed a ham for the freezer
And got to bed by 11:30.
Now I want to elevate this ankle
And get some sleep.
Good night from John Street
