December 19th 2015

Kind of a wasted day.
I will have to pick up the pace
tomorrow if I plan
to get everything done.
Judy was out at a party all day
John worked in the garage,
so I made chocolates.
We ordered pizza for supper
and watched a couple Christmas DVDs.

Thought for the day: trees
The first use of Christmas trees as they're known today dates back to the Germany or Latvia in the1500's. (7th century). Christmas trees can be natural, artificial, undecorated, decorated, candles, lights, ornaments, treats, colored, fiber optic, upside down, big, small and even art trees!

Romans decorated their houses with greens and lights to celebrate life during winter. Late in the Middle Ages, the Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees in their homes or outside their doors to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. The early  trees symbolized pagan or heathen tradition and were considered an oddity, but the Americas have had trees that date back to the time of George Washington. Many Germans stayed in the United States after the war, introduced the Christmas tree, and shared their traditions. By the early 20th century Americans proudly displayed their trees!

Christmas trees are a central part of Christmas celebrations around the world. Families gather around them to exchange gifts, cities put them up in squares and town halls, you'll find them in nearly every hotel and shopping mall.

Good night from John Street
