December 17th 2015

A whole lot of stuff done today!
Almost 60 chores.

Not sure what exactly cause my list is still pretty long.

I did do a lot of small chores
that cleaned up or finished
chores from previous days this week.

A lot of baking got done.
I had planned to hit the grocery store today
but kept myself occupied
without picking anything else up.

Around 8pm
I roped everyone into helping me
finally start decorating the dining room.
If it weren't for the fact
that we are hosting a holiday meal this year
I may have given up asking.

I have been promised more help tomorrow,
as everyone's eyes were drooping
and they were all yawning.

Thought for today: advent candle

Am I alone? Do you remember sitting around the dining room table and the advent candle burning down 2 days because last night you had eaten in front of the tv? I own them but I guess it has gone the way of a lot of family traditions, most people now use candy filled advent calendars.

In the Catholic Church the actual advent wreath and candles only count down the Sundays before Christmas.

The Advent Wreath is made of various evergreens symbolizing life everlasting. The circle of the wreath (like a wedding ring) has no beginning and has no end reminding us of the promised eternal life.

·
Cedar represents healing and strength.
· Holly reminds us of the Crown of Thorns.
· Red Holly berries represent sacrifice.
· Pinecones and nuts represent life and resurrection.
· Laurel represents victory over persecution, suffering, and death.

The purple candles represent the royalty and majesty of the King of Kings. Purple also represents prayer, pertinence, and preparation.

The rose candle represents rejoicing because the faithful are at the midpoint of Advent.

The first candle is one of Hope.
We have hope because God will keep the promises made to us.

The second one is the Candle of Preparation.
It is time to prepare for the Christ child to be born.

The third  candle is pink and is the Candle of Joy.
The Angels sang their message of Joy

The fourth candle is the Candle of Peace and Love.
God sent his only Son to earth because he loves us!

On Christmas Eve (after sundown)
or Christmas Day the central white ”Christ Candle” is lighted.
The white candle reminds us that Jesus is pure and should
always be in the center of our lives!.

Just in case you ever wondered.

During this Advent, wherever you see a lighted Christmas tree, let it call to mind the One who brings light to our darkness, healing our brokenness, and peace to all.

I found and liked that saying tonight.

Good Night from John Street
