feb 13

Never put much stock in being scared of friday the 13th.
Today was just an exceptionally empty day for me.

I did get up and made some more donations,
made my bed, cleaned the kitchen,
finished the bridal bouquet of wood roses,

and got approval later in the afternoon by the bride to be.
Judy popped into the house
for 20 minutes after school
before heading off to work,
something she will spend ALL of tomorrow doing too.

Today I have a topic.

Valentines Day.

Approve or disapprove,
tomorrow is Valentine's Day.

This is a hot topic of debate for some couples.
Being together a short time or a long time,
does not make this kind of holiday any easier.

I got my Valentines a cake from The Bake E Ree.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Bake-e-Ree/125882734152356
Just the right size for 3 people to share
because I love my little family.

I agree it is a card maker's holiday.
It is a florist's dream come true,
and chocolatier's everywhere make a killing this day.

It is impossible to get a reservation anywhere,
and everyone is worried
about being alone or
that their choice to give
or not to give
is wrong.

Lets give it to you straight...
EVERYONE likes to know they are loved,
husbands, wives, kids, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Ladies and gentlemen,
what do you really really want to happen?

You want a date,
boyfriend or husband
girlfriend or wife
your children
to remember you
and do something special or out of the ordinary.

I personally
DO NOT want John
to go buy 6 dozen roses,
and remortgage the house to buy me a new diamond.

Simply speaking,
if John walked in tomorrow
with one flower,
a bucket of Oreo cookies and cream ice cream
and a movie
I would be thrilled.
(and the flower isn't necessary)

Anyone who says this is not a real holiday
is hiding from the fear
of what has become an atrociously
overdone day of love.
{AND they are likely the same people who say
Christmas is commercialized,
and then ensure every new gadget is under the tree!}

ANY
holiday is bound to become commercialized!
I do not support people
spending hundreds of dollars
to tell someone they love them...
because you can do that for free by just speaking.

It is how you choose
to show your loved ones
that you care
that can change how you look at it!
MAKE breakfast in bed
or tomorrow night's dinner,
Grab a heart shaped pizza for lunch!

WRITE an "I love you" on a note in the vehicle
for your someone to find,
or on the bathroom mirror!
TEACH children to appreciate
everyone in their life!
THAT is a valentines sentiment.
Commercialization does have its advantages!!!!!!
There are thousands of items out there
to help you say it!
WHAT about premade heart shaped cookies,
their favourite chocolate bar,
their favourite hot beverage delivered with a donut,
a surprise visit on their break at work,
an email full of hearts
or a balloon.

So happy Valentines Day!
I hope your special someone
remembers you in a small
and heartfelt way tomorrow.
AND
don't forget your special someones too!

Good night from John Street.
