November 5th 2014

Today started with me going full tilt around the house. I was a machine getting chores done, online jobs done and organizing done. I had coffee with the girls and was primed to get lots done this afternoon. Epic fail. I didn't accomplish much this afternoon at all.

We did get to Sam's funeral visitation, got the canteen groceries and I got a cheesy brocolli, ham and potato dinner made for the 3 of us. (John was home again tonight)

That was the end of my great day, RMC sent Judy a form letter rejecting her application. She is heartbroken. This was a real shock to her. There are many other avenues she can pursue to get to her
dream, so, we will let her mourn this loss and work on her game plan.

Then it was time for cadets. The Warrant Officer First Class position was given to another deserving cadet. She is in line again for this position in 3 months.

Home again, we are both exhausted from a long hard day. It is time for jammies and cookie dough and snuggling in bed.

And now 8 more things that will make your holiday even more awesome.

  • Nothing smells like pumpkin bread! If you bake them in foil pans, it makes them easier to share

  • Ingredients. Yield:2

    3 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    2 teaspoons cinnamon
    2 teaspoons nutmeg
    1 teaspoon allspice (optional)
    1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
    3 cups sugar
    2/3 cup water
    1 cup oil
    5 eggs, beaten
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin (not pie filling)
    1 cup chopped pecans

    Directions:
    1. Grease two 9x5x3-inch loaf pans. In a large bowl mix together all of the dry ingredients.
    2. Blend in the water and oil, and mix in the eggs.
    3. Blend in the pumpkin.
    4. Fold in the pecans.
    5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
    6. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Have a special place for the card that comes from the farthest place
Organize a neighborhood progressive dinner. Have appetizers at one home, dinner at another and dessert at the last.

  • Try at least one new recipe and one new decorating idea
(like hanging a tree upside down from the ceiling fan)
  • Start working on a Christmas jigsaw puzzle on the first of December.
Try to have it finished by Christmas eve
  • Take a shut in a Christmas dinner
    (or just an elderly neighbour)
  • Rent a Santa Claus suit. Slip it on at lunch and hand out candy canes at the office
(or at a timmies meet up)
  • Hire high school or college students to help with the holiday entertaining. They can help serve, prep and clean up and perform odd jobs
    (awesome idea!)
Good night
