February 22nd 2016

Trying to teach a teenage hoarder
how to downsize to reasonable amounts
is enough to rip your hair out.

My daughter is a hoarder.
Left to her own devices,
our house would be packed
with the unnecessary and useless.

She understands the concept of one in one out
and follows the rule for the most part.
She willingly admits she does not need
much in the way of clothing
as she wears a uniform,
but in the same breath
asks why she has to get rid of
any of her 9 pairs of jeans!

Begrudgingly
Judy spent the evening
downsizing her stash of clothing.
A lot she was willing to admit did not fit,
like the shorts...
but teared up because she had none left!
I told her she could go and get as many pairs
from the donation pile as she wished
but if they did not fit...
then really she had none.
Still she did not understand.....
so,
I sent her off to find a pair that fit
and bring them back,
she found none and
then she realized I was not saying
get rid of everything,
just get rid of what does not fit
or anything you will never wear,
the downsizing went much smoother.

I can imagine how crippling
this disease would be
if she was left to her own devices!

Tomorrow we will attack her book shelves.
so much crap, and paper and junk.
We are only facing one job at a time.
This seems to suit her.

51.  Pens and pencils – Keep your favorites and let go of the rest
52.  Little shampoo bottles from a hotel you went to 5 years ago
53.  Knick knacks that don’t make you smile every time you see them
54.  Cords that don’t belong to anything you currently own
55.  Lose all those loose screws, nuts, bolts, etc. unless they have a place where they can actually be reused one day

And so,
another day is at an end.

A bit of cleaning
A bit of planning
A bit of family time
A yummy dinner

A semi-successful day.

John is back to work tomorrow,
and Judy is back to the cancer clinic
with birth mom for her first chemo treatment
that was started today.

She is doing ok.
Tough place to be.

Prayers tonight for Christine and Kate....

Good night from John Street
