What is a promise?

Like many words in our day and age,
Promise is a word thrown around
Easily and too flippantly.
At least it is for me.

A promise in my opinion
Is an unbreakable contract
Based on love for the other person.

It's funny,
Most people would be unlikely
To promise a homeless man
That upon coming out of the bank
They would give him $5...

But to family and friends
Saying "I  to" does not hold
The same degree of reverance.
For family, people just say
"Sorry"
"I forgot"
"I got busy"
"Wasn't a big deal"
"Do it later"

To a lot of us
Me included
"I promise" deserves more.

A promise is made from.   
Love
A promise should be
Honoured
A promise is always
Cherished
