August 15th 2015
It was finally the day.
While also mourning the death of Elvis 38 years ago,
the John Street gang was going to be busy.
Our day started
with John arriving home
a couple hours earlier than expected.
After he was showered and fed...
We sent him off for a nap.
Judy and I headed out to a 40th birthday party,
we were not sure about going as it was sooo hot today!
When we finally found the birthday party/picnic
it was under a lovely shady tree
and there was a beautiful breeze.
Soon enough I had to get Judy back
to go to work
and it was time for me to get ready
for our anniversary dinner!
Dinner on the Farm
was a tickets only event
out on the Talbotville Berry Farm tonight.
We bought tickets one month ago
and were looking forward
to an anniversary dinner
that was totally different
than anything we had ever done.
When we arrived
we found a long winding table
covered in white linens and glass.
We chose our seats
and soon we were offered
3 types of appetizers from our chef of the night,
Terrence Tew
a local celerity who was on Chopped Canada!
fresh ground corn martinis and beet soup
and bruschetta made with heirloom chocolate tomatoes.
The we were off for a walking tour of the farm,
right into the fields
where all the foods had been picked
for our dinner tonight,
and around the property.
Thankfully I had brought an umbrella
to shade me from the sun
that was still brightly shining at 7pm.
When we got back,
the chef was ready with our next course.
Strawberry and watermelon soup with cracked peppercorns.
Then it was an amazing salad
of cold pickled zuchinni spaghetti
and hot pickled beet spaghetti
on kale with quinoa.
Our celebratory bottle of sparkling wine
was opened
as the fresh raspberry and cucumber sorbet
with pop rocks was served.
The candles were lit
and the stings of bulb lights in the trees were turned on,
and it was time for the main course.
The plate was started
with cauliflower pureed with vanilla,
topped with fresh green and yellow beans.
The side dish was 2 potato croquettes
and the most delicious beer infused piece of beef
I have ever had the delight to eat,
with tomato jam.
I enjoyed every single bite of that plate.
Thank you Terrance Tew.
The last course of the night was naturally dessert.
We had a plate that started
with the fluffiest mashmallow stuff
that had been toasted
with a slice of red and yellow watermelon
and balls of cantaloupe,
sprinkled with bits of sponge toffee.
It was a lovely evening.
John had started the evening
by saying we could stop at Burger King
on the way home if there was not enough food.
THAT was definitely not necessary,
and everything was delicious.
A definite do-again next year.
Happy 45th Anniversary
Caroline and Brian.
Thank you Talbotville Berry Farm.
Thank you Terrence Tew.
and good night from John Street.
